Twitter invented “cashtags”
Twitter rolled out new symbol – “cashtags”, which has $ sign. It allows users to search in the microblogging service tweets mentioning brands and companies.
According to the statement in the official Twitter microblog, combination of icons and the $ ticker (short company's name on the Stock Exchange) is the link, click on which will search for this cashtag. Note that the first time you can click cashtags only in some mobile client and on the website Twitter.com.
In addition, The Next Web focuses on that clickable cashtags can be just those which set out the names of stock abbreviations, for example, $ AAPL and $ GOOG.

Note that among Twitter microblogging services, there are two types of special characters. The first one is @ sign, which is necessary to mention in the communications service users. After you click on such a mention you are transferred to the user profile. # The second icon is called the “hashtag” and its function – is to determine topics of tweets. When you click on a hashtag, the user get a page with all the records on the subject.
Recall, according to the Semiocast company, at the end of June this year Twitter broke the mark of an audience of half a billion users.
