Penguin Update – be careful than ever before

google penguinUse “black” SEO techniques? Fasten your seat belts because in coming months Google will often update Penguin algorithm. But Panda algorithm aimed at fighting against low quality content, is experiencing only minor updates.

The head of Google’s spam fighting team Matt Cutts told about this at the SES conference in San Francisco.

Technically, according to Cutts, Penguin is not just a filter but “improvement” of the algorithm, which doesn't allow sites to achieve desirable success via spam, as it was before. Particularly this applies to some of the tactics of a reference weight, which previously allowed to raise pages' credibility in the eyes of search engine.

Recall the algorithm Panda was launched in 2011 and its purpose – struggle with poor content. Each subsequent Panda update was like aftershocks after a major “earthquake.”

But Penguin algorithm behaves differently. According to Cutts, it's just because it is newer and therefore it has to many major updates, until it becomes as refined as Panda. In comments for Search Engine Roundtable Cutts added that while, for every update Google software engineers implement the algorithm Penguin additional signals and this leads to a strong shake-up in search results. Therefore, warns Matt, you shouldn't expect easy data updates from Penguin.

Until now, Google had submitted only one major change in Penguin (Penguin 1.1and not Penguin 2.0 because Google said the update will affect only 0.1% of all search results).
